Director - National Institute of Mental Health 

Mental Health Research in the Age of COVID

 Dr. Gordon is the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the lead federal agency for research on mental disorders. He oversees an extensive research portfolio of basic and clinical research that seeks to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure.

 Dr. Nakae is dedicated to access and equity in medical education and healthcare through transformative leadership and practice. She collaborates with campus constituencies and community partners to build capacity for justice in medicine and society through teaching, mentorship, and innovation.

Building a Resilient and Diverse Research Workforce Through the UNITE Initiative 

Dr. Bernard leads NIH’s thought in the science of scientific workforce diversity, using evidence-based approaches to catalyze cultures of inclusive excellence. Her focus is to enable NIH and NIH-funded institutions to benefit from a full range of talent, fostering creativity and innovation in science. Dr. Bernard served as the deputy director of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) from October 2008 until being named the COSWD in May 2021.
